MESSAGE NOTES
The Family Tree: Bathsheba
Raise your expectations of the possibilities of what God can still do with your life.
[Matthew 1:6]
Jesse was the father of King David.
David was the father of Solomon (whose mother was Bathsheba, the widow of Uriah).
[II Samuel 11:1-3]
In the spring of the year, when kings normally go out to war, David sent Joab and the Israelite army to fight the Ammonites. They destroyed the Ammonite army and laid siege to the city of Rabbah. However, David stayed behind in Jerusalem. 2 Late one afternoon, after his midday rest, David got out of bed and was walking on the roof of the palace. As he looked out over the city, he noticed a woman of unusual beauty taking a bath. 3 He sent someone to find out who she was, and he was told, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”
[Proverbs 4:23]
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
[Matthew 12:34]
For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
[Matthew 15:18]
the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them.
Who are you?
Who am I?
Mya Angelou…when somebody shows you who they are believe them.
[I Samuel 13:14]
…the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart.
[Acts 13:22]
But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart.
[I Samuel 22:1-2]
So David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. Soon his brothers and all his other relatives joined him there. 2 Then others began coming—men who were in trouble or in debt or who were just discontented—until David was the captain of about 400 men.
Believe it or not you can change, but if you don’t believe it you won’t.
[II Samuel 11:24-25]
Some of the king’s men were killed, including Uriah the Hittite.” 25 “Well, tell Joab not to be discouraged,” David said. “The sword devours this one today and that one tomorrow! Fight harder next time, and conquer the city!”
[Psalm 51:1-4]
Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. 2 Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. 3 For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. 4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned
[Psalm 51:10-12]
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. 11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
[Psalm 51:16-17]
You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering. 17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.
[Ezekiel 36:26]
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
[Matthew 11:28-30]
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
You can’t change your past, but God can change your heart, and that will change your future.
