Sermon: Words Create Worlds
[James 3:3-6 MSG]
A bit in the mouth of a horse controls the whole horse. A small rudder on a huge ship in the hands of a skilled captain sets a course in the face of the strongest winds. A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it…
[Hebrews 11:3]
By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God
[Proverbs 18:21]
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
When I open up my mouth, miracles start breaking out. I have the authority Jesus has given me

…the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
[Genesis 35:18]
…she named the baby Ben-oni (which means “son of my sorrow”). The baby’s father, however, called him Benjamin (which means “son of my right hand”).

[Proverbs 22:6]
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Is there a difference between thinking and feeling?
Locution, Illocution, Perlocution
The three components of a communication, from a pragmatic point of view, are:
]Locution—the semantic or literal significance of the utterance;
Illocution--the intention of the speaker; and.
Perlocution--how it was received by the listener.
Words matter. Intention matters more!
Conversation and debate has died.
Words and the intent of the heart truly dictate whether you lead a biblical community of peace or just another social community of miscommunication and discord.
Words create worlds.
They are powerful to define reality.
