MESSAGE NOTES:

Sermon: Words Create Worlds

[James 3:3-6 MSG]

A bit in the mouth of a horse controls the whole horse. A small rudder on a huge ship in the hands of a skilled captain sets a course in the face of the strongest winds. A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it…

[Hebrews 11:3]

By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God

[Proverbs 18:21]

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

When I open up my mouth, miracles start breaking out. I have the authority Jesus has given me

[Luke 6:45]

…the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

[Genesis 35:18]

…she named the baby Ben-oni (which means “son of my sorrow”). The baby’s father, however, called him Benjamin (which means “son of my right hand”).

James 3…teaches judged more harshly

[Proverbs 22:6]

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Intellectually honest, emotionally honest,

Words create worlds…God spoke the earth into being…your words create a certain nature in your environment and the people around you

Think Say Do

Head (100B Neurons), Heart (40k neurons), Gut (100M neurons)

What about when I think or feel something but I say something else?

Is there a difference between thinking and feeling?

Locution, Illocution, Perlocution

The three components of a communication, from a pragmatic point of view, are:

]Locution—the semantic or literal significance of the utterance;

Illocution--the intention of the speaker; and.

Perlocution--how it was received by the listener.

Words matter.  Intention matters more!

Conversation and debate has died.

Words and the intent of the heart truly dictate whether you lead a biblical community of peace or just another social community of miscommunication and discord.

Words create worlds.

They are powerful to define reality.

They are powerful to define your future reality.

Where do you need to go?

Conclusion:

Currently I am…

I will…

Currently I am…in a season of grief.  I will…Heal.

Currently I am…in bondage to something.  I will…do the work to find freedom.

Currently I am…not able to trust anybody.  I will…dig deep and refuse to block everyone out.

Currently I am…not able to be trusted. I will…become a person of consistency and integrity

Currently I am…confused about what’s going on in my head.  I will…figure out what going on

Currently I am…holding bitterness towards somebody. I will…find forgiveness and peace

Currently we…have a broken healthy marriage.  We will…do whatever it takes to to get healthy.

___________

You have hope in God.  He is my provider. Please consider this, if not God will provide something else.

The Golden Rule…do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Thinking about how I like to be lead…communicate, make sense, give me the information, and be kind.

'Reports' that either lift faith or melt the heart with fear.

If you want to change the world it’s OK if you help just one person, and its OK if that one person is you

James…praise God and curse people
