Sermon: Walking with God
[Hebrews 12:1]
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
[Hebrews 11:5]
It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying—“he disappeared, because God took him.” For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God.
[Genesis 5:21-24]
When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah. After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters. Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him.
Walk with God…We are the church
[Romans 5:12-14]
When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. 13 Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break. 14 Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did.
[Genesis 6:11–12]
…the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence. God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth was corrupt.
Enoch didn’t use the corruption of his time as an excuse to become corrupt
[Hebrews 11:5-6]
…he was known as a person who pleased God. 6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
SEEK HIM
Enoch believed in God.
Enoch sincerely sought god
What are we supposed to learn from Enoch?
He believed in God. He sought God. He walked with God.
We bow to him, we sing to him, we meditate on his word, then we walk with him.
We take him with us.
What you’re walking into isn’t as important as who you’re walking in with.
We think that what we’re walking into is more important than who you’re walking in with
Enoch’s Faithfulness made it’s way to Noah
[Genesis 6:21]
When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah.
[Genesis 6:9]
This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God.
Conclusion: Pray for the things that people are walking into
[Hebrews 12:1-4]
let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. 3 Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. 4 After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin.
