Don’t Let Your Hearts be Troubled | Pastor Greg Ford | One Church Columbus

ICEBREAKER:

What is the greatest movie of all time, and why?

MESSAGE NOTES:

[John 14:1]

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.

[John 14:27]

I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

The phrase “do not be afraid” is written in the Bible 365 times.

[Matthew 6:25-27]

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

[Matthew 6:31-34]

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

The way to get your heart out of trouble is to use your whole brain.

[II Corinthians 10:5]

…we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

[Philippians 4:6-8]

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. 8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

QUESTION 1: How do we practically apply the “zebra mentality” to our lives around worry?

QUESTION 2: What are your top “reruns” that you can play back to remind yourself of God’s faithfulness?

QUESTION 3: What is your biggest challenge or struggle when it comes to fear and worry?

GUIDED PRAYER:

God thank you that you have designed my body and brain to function at a high level - thank you for your word that reminds me who you are, and gives revelation for how to live a Christ-centered life. Help me to have the proper view and perspective on fear and worry, and truly be led by your spirit on how to process it when the time comes. Use everything within me for your glory. Amen.
